NVIDIA's Full-Stack Codesign Tackles AI's Growing Memory Challenges

Image: Blockchain.News

NVIDIA is addressing the increasing memory demands of AI models and applications through its full-stack codesign approach, which integrates GPUs, CPUs, networking, storage, and software to maximize memory efficiency. This strategy is critical as larger models, longer contexts, and agentic applications intensify GPU memory pressure, compounded by tight supply and rising costs. AI factories rely on a memory and storage hierarchy, with GPU high-bandwidth memory (HBM) as the fastest and most expensive tier. HBM primarily stores model parameters and key-value (KV) cache, both of which are growing due to the increasing size of AI models and the context required for agentic inference. NVIDIA emphasizes that merely adding HBM capacity is insufficient, as memory bandwidth becomes a bottleneck, limiting the effective use of additional capacity.
