Ethereum’s EIP-8061 proposal would allow validators to exit and consolidate at higher rates while preserving the cap on new stake, leaving direct stakers subject to the existing activation pace. The 256 ETH figure is a rate cap, not a maximum queue size. An epoch lasts six minutes and 24 seconds, making 57,600 ETH a theoretical daily activation total if every epoch uses its full allowance. The cap sets how quickly ETH can become active, not how much can wait in the Ethereum staking entry queue. Exit processing would change on a different track from new stake. EIP-8061 would remove the fixed throughput cap for exits and give validator consolidations their own capacity.
