Ex-OpenAI engineer pleads not guilty to spying charges

Image: Crypto Briefing

Abdulrahman Alfozan, a former engineer at OpenAI , has pleaded not guilty to charges of using a device to intercept communications within the company’s office. Alfozan, a Saudi Arabian national, was arrested last month following the discovery of an encrypted audio recorder in a conference room. The U.S. Department of Justice has not found evidence of Alfozan accessing or exporting sensitive information such as model weights, source code, or customer data. The charge carries a possible sentence of up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Future developments in the legal proceedings could significantly influence market perceptions, particularly any new evidence presented by the prosecution or defense. Observers should monitor any statements from the FBI or DOJ, which could impact the likelihood of accusations involving foreign governments.
