Ethereum EIP-8288: 8 MB/s Limit, 10M to 10k Gas Solution

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has reignited the debate over how the network should support cryptography, arguing that Ethereum should stop adding precompiles and instead route heavy computation through client-side STARK proofs aggregated by EIP-8288. The proposal, part of the Lean Ethereum vision, seeks to keep the chain lean while enabling post-quantum signatures and private transactions without protocol-level changes. EIP-8288, in-mempool signature and proof aggregation, authored by Vitalik Buterin and Thomas Coratje, introduces a new model for verification. Instead of the EVM or a dedicated precompile checking each signature and proof on-chain, transactions would declare compact dependency frames as triples of scheme, data hash, and verification key hash. Mempool nodes would then aggregate these dependencies and produce a single recursive STARK for the block.
