On Oct. 15, addresses in Bitcoin’s newer whale cohort represented 33.06% of combined realized cap for the two tracked groups, while their estimated cost basis had recovered to about $77,000 after a late-August decline. The newer cohort’s realized-cap value was $78.61 billion, compared with $159.15 billion for older whales. Its share was roughly 18% earlier in 2026. Since September, the newer group’s measure has risen while the older cohort’s figure has remained broadly stable. The labels describe groups of addresses classified by the age of their on-chain outputs. To qualify for the newer cohort, an address must hold more than 1,000 BTC, with its unspent outputs averaging less than 155 days old. Addresses identified as exchanges or miners are excluded.
