A legal dispute in the UK questions the legality of certain crypto derivatives operations. A British engineer claims 324.8 bitcoins, valued at approximately 26.5 million dollars as of October 14, 2026, after more than a thousand losing trades. He believes the platform did not have the necessary authorization to offer these financial products to British clients. This case could also involve other traders who carried out similar operations between 2018 and 2022 on the BitMEX platform. Lewis Barber, a computer engineer from Chelford, Cheshire, reportedly initiated a proceeding before the High Court of London. He targets HDR Global Trading Limited, the Seychelles-registered company owning BitMEX. According to information reported by The Guardian and The Mirror , he contests the legality of his derivatives operations carried out between 2018 and 2022.
