Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum , has declared that the competition to accelerate zero-knowledge (ZK) technology is over, urging developers to prioritize security in the zkEVM landscape. In a recent post on X, Buterin congratulated the ZKsync Airbender team for reaching a new milestone and emphasized that the contest for speed in deploying zero-knowledge proofs on Ethereum is now settled. Buterin outlined three key objectives for the formal verification of zkEVMs. First, he stressed the need to ensure that mathematical proofs align precisely with the Ethereum network’s specifications. Second, he called for a strict limit on prover costs relative to the gas used in each block. Third, he underscored the fundamental importance of the underlying proof system’s security.
