OpenAI on November 2, 2026, introduced LifeVal, a benchmark designed to measure how well AI helps people complete everyday tasks, including finding childcare, managing finances and handling government paperwork. According to OpenAI's announcement dated November 2, 2026, LifeVal is intended to assess practical assistance rather than primarily academic knowledge tests. The company said it used the evaluation to track and drive improvements over the preceding year, with task selection drawn from the American Time Use Survey and the Multinational Time Use Study. OpenAI said the benchmark also incorporates a demographically representative survey of 3,995 respondents about where they most wanted personal-assistant help. Areas covered include caregiving, health, education, household administration, personal finances, shopping and accessing government services.
