Anthropic said its internal use of AI has changed hiring, work organization and output, with junior technical hiring slowing as agent activity expanded. In a technical report published Oct. 16, 2026, the company said interactive AI agent hours outnumbered employee hours 6 to 1 by August, while managers increasingly emphasized autonomy and judgment over narrow technical expertise. The report, titled How employment is changing at Anthropic and written by Nathan Wilmers, Regina Catipon, Maxim Massenkoff and Peter McCrory, says it draws on internal employment, AI-use, output, survey, communication, calendar and hiring records, alongside 17 employee interviews. Anthropic said junior-level employees in technical departments fell from 21% to 14% of technical headcount since early 2025, while the share of junior technical hires dropped from 27% to 9%.
