Ethereum Foundation researcher Justin Drake has set an ambitious timeline for the network’s transition to post-quantum and post-AI security standards, calling on developers to deliver three major hard forks within a 24-month window following the upcoming Glamsterdam upgrade. Speaking at Devcon 8 in Mumbai on Tuesday, Drake emphasized the importance of completing these upgrades by December 2028—one year ahead of the foundation’s official December 2029 target. The December 2029 deadline traces back to a September post on Ethereum’s protocol priorities, which outlined plans to render the network’s execution, consensus, and data layers fully resistant to theoretical advances in quantum computing. According to the foundation’s timeline, a minimum of five coordinated hard forks following the Glamsterdam upgrade will be required to reach full post-quantum readiness.
