Bitcoin (BTC) faces resistance near $87,000 as buyers from six to 12 months earlier have a cost basis near $87,700, while bid liquidity clusters around $80,000 across exchange order books. The $87,700 figure is the average acquisition price for coins bought six to 12 months earlier. Below that price, the group is carrying an unrealized loss on average. Some holders may choose to exit if Bitcoin returns to their purchase price, adding selling pressure within the resistance range. The 2026 opening price near $87,490 and the 20-month moving average near $87,165 also sit in the resistance range. Similar cost-basis levels have halted rebounds this year. Bitcoin reached the six-to-12-month buyers’ average purchase price in January, then fell by more than one-third.
