A wrongful death suit claims GPT-4o built a 25-day taper plan for an Amazon engineer with epilepsy and told her to keep it from her doctors The parents of a 31-year-old Amazon engineer have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against OpenAI . They allege ChatGPT walked their daughter through quitting her anti-seizure medication and helped her keep that decision from her doctors. Bowen Wan, who had lived with epilepsy since she was 14, was found dead in her Seattle apartment in February. Her parents, Qun Wan and Meiqin Xu, now argue that a chatbot played physician without the license, the training, or the accountability. The complaint was filed on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, in San Francisco Superior Court. It names both OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman, as defendants.
