Malaysian customs seized 30 AI-equipped server units in a shipment valued at about $12.1 million (RM49.5 million) after officers found it had been declared as ordinary electronics before a planned re-export. Officers intercepted the cargo Oct. 15 in the free trade zone at Kuala Lumpur International Airport. Authorities announced the seizure Oct. 28. Aspalila Ag Tuah, the airport's customs director, said the servers were destined for re-export to another Asian country. She said the goods were routed through Malaysia to avoid restrictions on export to their next destination. A permit is required for the onward shipment under Malaysia's Strategic Trade Act 2010. Customs officials linked the case to a suspected smuggling syndicate. Officials said at least five cases had been tied to the group.
