OpenAI announced on November 4, 2026, that it plans to acquire Pierre Computer Company, Inc., a developer-tools company known for its Code Storage platform and open-source code-interface libraries. The acquisition aims to expand Codex’s capabilities in building, understanding, and reviewing code. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals, and the companies will remain independent until the deal closes. Pierre Computer Company was founded in 2023 by Jacob Thornton and Ian Ownbey as part of Y Combinator’s Winter 2023 batch. The company initially focused on rebuilding code hosting, code review, and continuous-integration primitives for small teams, augmented by AI. Thornton, a co-creator of Twitter Bootstrap, and Ownbey previously co-founded the mobile app Bumpers, which was acquired by Coinbase in 2016.
