OpenAI Commits $5 Million to Simons Foundation Math Review Program

Image: TokenPost

OpenAI is committing $5 million to a Simons Foundation program that will fund mathematicians reviewing AI-generated work, part of a broader effort to assess and set standards for the research. The contribution will pay for workshops, conferences and special programs to help mathematicians assess AI-produced results. The overall effort brings together $15 million in combined funding and resources from OpenAI, Anthropic and the Simons Foundation. The foundation will manage awards through an open call for proposals. The program is designed to help researchers assess AI-generated results and continue research that builds on them. OpenAI and Anthropic will also provide AI tools and computing resources to researchers supported through the foundation, including those working in basic science. The math collection contained 722 manuscripts across 372 result families on Oct. 6.
