Ledger unveiled Atom on Thursday, an $849 Android-based device built to sign crypto transactions alongside a user’s phone. The device looks like a regular smartphone, though Ledger says it isn’t one because its mobile connection carries data only, with no cellular calls, SMS, or emergency calls. Its Android side runs everyday apps. Moreover, a separate secure element chip runs Ledger OS, which takes over the screen whenever the user approves a payment or a transaction. Gauthier presented Atom at Ledger’s Op3n event in Paris. Atom ships with Solana Mobile’s Seeker app preinstalled, opening the Solana (SOL) dApp Store. Reservations open at a Founders Edition reserve price, held with a fully refundable $100 deposit. That price rises to $899 after launch, according to The Verge.
