Investor Proposes $5,000 Accounts to Share Potential AI Gains

Image: TokenPost

Technology investor and economist Sarah Cannon has proposed seed-funded accounts for U.S. adults invested in a technology-stock index, offering a way to share in possible AI-related gains as the scale of future job displacement remains unknown. She calls the proposal “Innovation Accounts.” It is a policy idea, not an enacted program. Cannon outlines a philanthropic pilot of $5 billion, plus administrative costs, to fund 1 million accounts with $5,000 each. She estimates that providing every adult over 18 with a $1,000 account would cost $270 billion. If eligibility were limited to households with wealth below $500,000, she estimates the cost would be $190 billion and the accounts would cover about 70% of Americans.
