The September retail-sales increase brought U.S. retail and food services sales to $745 billion, as gasoline stations jumped 6.4% and sales excluding them rose just 0.2% month over month. Total sales climbed 6.3% from September 2025. Sales excluding gasoline stations rose 4.5% over the same period. The estimates account for seasonal variation and holiday and trading-day differences, but they are not adjusted for price changes. Sales from July through September were 5.5% higher than in the same three months a year earlier. August’s monthly increase was revised to 1.3% from 1.1%.
