Image: TokenPost

A modeled lifetime cost for eight traditional American milestones reached $5,320,133 in June 2026 dollars, rising 4.1% in a year when private-industry wages and salaries gained 3.1%. The estimate covers homeownership, two new cars, raising and educating two children, retirement, health care, annual vacations, pets and a wedding. It measures modeled spending, not a required savings balance or an official measure of the American Dream. Homeownership was the largest category at $1,275,782, up from $1,184,493 in the recalculated year-earlier comparison. Raising two children and paying for college came to $953,763, compared with $876,092. The model puts lifetime costs for two new cars at $1,205,627 and retirement spending for a married couple at $1,205,119. The comparison with 2025 uses updated methods for homeownership, cars and retirement.
