Core Scientific Plans to End Its Bitcoin Mining by Late 2026

Core Scientific plans to end its own Bitcoin (BTC) mining by Dec. 31, 2026, and shift toward hosting computing workloads for artificial intelligence and high-performance computing (HPC). From 2027, the Nasdaq-listed company plans to focus on high-density hosting for those workloads. It is also gradually ending mining-hosting services for third parties, expanding the transition beyond its own mining operations. The shift covers two parts of the business: self-mining, where the company mines BTC itself, and hosting for outside mining customers. Its own production is set to stop by the close of 2026, while third-party hosting is being phased out gradually. Quarterly results offer context for the planned change. Core Scientific's total revenue increased 187% year over year to $233 million, while mining revenue fell about 79%.
