Hardware constraints on quantum computing leave time to address its potential threat to Bitcoin, according to macro investor Jordy Visser. He argued that the spread of AI-driven cyberattacks could also accelerate financial institutions’ adoption of cryptography and investment in security. In an October 24 interview with Anthony Pompliano, Visser, a VisserLabs author and macro investor, rejected the claim that quantum computing would drive Bitcoin’s value to zero. He said physical constraints on the technology’s development meant there would be time to respond. Visser cited cryptographer Adam Back as an influence on his assessment. He said Back estimated a timeline of 20 to 40 years for quantum computing to reach a threatening level, while others put it at five to seven years.
