Stellar (XLM) Challenges Banks With Low-Cost Interbank Deal

Image: Crypto Economy

Fintech firm Ascend Markets and the M1X Global platform successfully completed the first regulated short-term secured lending (repo) transaction on the Stellar (XLM) blockchain. The operation utilized tokenized United States Treasury bonds (USDM1) as collateral against the USDC stablecoin, completely bypassing centralized banking clearing intermediaries. This initiative is significant because it operated continuously for 72 hours—even through the weekend —executing automated hourly rollovers via smart contracts under SIFMA standards, with total network fees amounting to less than one cent. This streamlined architecture not only slashes operational costs drastically, but also validates Stellar’s infrastructure for mobilizing sovereign debt in real time within its expanding Real World Asset (RWA) ecosystem. This transaction demonstrated the technical feasibility of unlocking 24/7 institutional liquidity without settlement friction.
